looks like the file is unzipping when i copy it.

I only looked in recover to see what was on the sd... to see if the zip file was there. when i power up in hboot, it loads normally, without the new zip coming up. i redownloaded the radio.. right now it is called mdm9k, i rename it PG05IMG.zip and put it on the root.

thanks for replying. thought i was on my own for awhile.... under right click properties... file is on the root. E: file is named properly. didn't extract anything. It doesn't make sense. I can see it on the root along with the other folders, but when I look from recovery it isn't there.

yep, and some of us need all the help they can get. you are right. I should have done more research. I thought rooting the phone meant ota couldn't come through anymore. Nothing in the early research that I saw warned about doing a custom rom to avoid this. but obviously don't check the threads...

I plugged into usb, deleted pg05img.zip. in the process the software update came up and rebooted the phone. seems i can't do anything without freezing. I could reset to factory settings but then i lose the root. any suggestions? something to tell the update to stop trying would be great!

I'm getting lost on all the steps. first things first.... 1. download new radio 2. flash it 3. remove it 4. download second radio, flash and remove 5. remove current pg05img.zip already on phone 6. download custom rom and flash there should be some reboots and more removes in there somewhere...

Is there a way to fix phone from cwm? then flash new rom later? when i flash the new radio how do i remove it after? I am new at this and appreciate all your work!

thanks, I thought it might be old because I haven't seen it mentioned in the threads. How do I remove the first and second file. not from cwm? or by using the computer? I have the old pg05img.zip on the sd. do I need to remove those too when I flash the new rom? Is there a link to both Forever...

Not sure if this is the best thread, but I'm not sure of best options. actually totally confused! running original stock rom 1.12.605.6 and want to flash custom rom, because got nailed by ota and stuck at exclamation mark. did recovery and back up then reset to factory settings and lost root...
