I know it's a bit of an old thread, but you can try the app from the Play Store (appropriately) called "LGCamera." It's not made by LG, and it works with non-LG phones. The app lets you control almost every setting manually, including focus. It helped the GODAWFUL focus-breathing on my LG...

Unless I'm mis-understanding you, I thought it was the case with Android that all icons and widgets (and other graphical items) are rendered when the OS starts up--one of the things the phone is doing on start-up before it's responsive; so no matter if you're viewing them or not, those picture...

sRedWolf, I'm having this exact same problem. Tried uninstalling the gmail update then reinstalling, and the bug persists ("gmail has stopped responding" when I click to go back to my main account from an email). For now, I just rolled back to the previous version--but the March 18th update...
