One of the things KitKat was touted for was being able to open the camera app from the lockscreen. I've found no way to do this and am assuming its because (A) I'm not rooted and (B) my company's Exchange setup requires a PIN/passcode to secure the phone. Or am I missing something?

S3 settings are a bit different than for the G3: they are GPS Only, Power Saving (uses Wi-Fi and mobile network triangulation) and High Accuracy (adds in GPS). I use High Accuracy all the time. Sometimes location based Reminders trigger, sometimes they don't. However, I almost never get Google...

No, you cannot. Even on 4.4.x. Intentionally disabled on this device and most other Samsung devices. I think S5 and Note 3 can but no other non-rooted devices. Darn shame, too, as that was one of my chief desires for 4.4

Pull the battery a few times and that should resolve it. It did for me.

I am finding that using OK Google from the lockscreen to do anything other than retrieve basic info doesn't work well on my Verizon S3. For instance, trying to send an SMS message doesn't work so well. You can say "OK Google", then "Send a message to [recipient]" but then it gets hung up...

It finally activated for me late last evening. Works generally as advertised, though it sometimes hiccups when using it with the screen lock on. The microphone graphic appears but it will not accept input. All in all, though, a huge advance. Will have to watch the battery life to see if this...

I don't think you are correct on the Search from any screen functionality. Google's own documentation says that it excludes Moto X, Moto G and other older Android devices. You are correct about the Google Now launcher though (however, it does work on other phones; you just have to sideload it)

Mystified me, too! Its the symbol saying you have NFC enabled.

That's the problem: other than the generic "use Voice" dialog, (see below) I have nothing else.

I have now received the Google Search v3.5.15 via the Play Store (vs sideloaded APK). The OK Google hotword from any page functionality is still not showing up. My question is this: Is the S3 one of the "older phones" that won't be getting this? Or has someone on an unrooted S3 had this...

Can the mods merge this thread with the other one on the same topic?
