I have exactly the same issue with TU 5.1.0. I found a workaround by uninstalling the latest version of the Gmail app and reverting to the previous version. Now TU unread badges work correctly again on the Gmail app (and all the other apps). Go to Settings - Apps - Gmail and under App Info...

Try Asus Supernote (search on xda developers). You have to sideload it as an apk - it's not in Play store. It's the best I've found, and I've tried many! Then use Note Buddy App (this is available in Google Play store) to launch Supernote when S-Pen is removed. Let us know what you think of...
