Looking to replace my "old and busted" with a "new hotness"

I did notice that there seems to be a fair amount of unnecessary (and indeed, in some cases explicitly unwanted) synchronization going on. Like synchronizing Google Play Books to my "other devices" (there are none to synchronize with!), and possibly multiple redundant synchronizations of other...

Looking to replace my "old and busted" with a "new hotness"

(And yes, the "Men in Black" allusion is intended.) I've had the same early-model Nexus 7 since 2012 or 2013. It's slow, and requires frequent restarts, and finally letting it update itself only exacerbated the problem (seemingly by weighing it down with functionality I neither need nor want)...

    USB keyboard/mouse trouble

I have a Nexus 7, currently running Android 5.1.1 I distinctly recall being able to connect a keyboard and mouse to it, through an active USB hub and an OTG adapter, but now it recognizes neither. This past weekend, I paired it with a bluetooth keyboard, but because the bluetooth keyboard was...

Renaming in download directory with File Manager -- "Downloads" still shows old name

The title says it all: I downloaded three podcasts, renamed them with File Manager, and everything BUT "Downloads" shows them under their new names. What's up with that?

Can anybody recommend a GOOD mail reader for Android?

Quite simply, I find the GMail web client utterly horrible, and getting worse with every so-called "improvement." Even my ISP's SquirrelMail, while hardly ideal, has a better, less-cluttered, easier-to-customize web-mail interface than GMail. And while I can't recall the last time I tried the...

Manually sequencing Chrome bookmarks on Nexus 7?

That was my general impression, at least until I encountered the "bookmarks page goes blank when the WiFi connection is NG" phenomenon (what could cause that, if the bookmarks are stored locally?), and those are the only bookmarks I have. I have a file manager installed, but was unable to find...

Manually sequencing Chrome bookmarks on Nexus 7?

Is there a way to manually sequence the bookmarks in Chrome, on my Nexus 7? At present, I can't even determine where they're stored, except that they frequently disappear if I don't have an internet connection, which suggests somewhere online.

    Selecting text -- help?

I was afraid it was something like that. I do note that the home screen on the Nexus 7 now rotates, which is nice, and definitely gives me hope that other improvements are in the works. Is there an easy way for me to forward my complaints about text selection to the developers? Is there a...

No widgets at all, and just the icons for the apps I use regularly.

    Selecting text -- help?

Thanks. It took me a while to try it live. What you say works as advertised, up to a point. But I find that in Chrome, in a large multiline text area (e.g., the "body" area in my ISP's web-mail interface), several things happen: 1. It immediately brings up the keyboard, and zooms and scrolls...

    Selecting text -- help?

I've been having trouble selecting text on my Nexus (e.g., to copy it elsewhere, or just to delete excess quoted material when responding to an email message). It seems that at times, I get a single blue indicator at the insertion point, at times, two indicators at either ends of a highlighted...

    Printing via the USB port?

I recently tried the free test version of PrintHand. Unfortunately, while I can get it to recognize my Samsung CLP-315, when plugged into my OTG cable, it needs WiFi (which I don't have at home) to download the driver, and apparently can't install the driver without the printer being hooked up...

    Trouble sending attachments in GMail

This is weird: I tried it at home this evening (albeit with no WiFi around), and it worked fine with both a mouse and the touch-screen. I'm definitely tossing an old USB mouse in the suitcase, this trip.

    Trouble sending attachments in GMail

Today, on my lunch break, I tried emailing myself a file from my Nexus 7. I could not get the "paperclip" attachment icon to respond at all. Either nothing would respond, or a nearby icon would respond. This evening, I'm going to try it with a mouse attached. Has anybody else had this difficulty?
