FWIW, after listening sympathetically to my 5.0 complaints, a Verizon tech support went to ask a "supervisor" and came back on the line and told me that Verizon plans to start pushing out 5.1 to the G2 around November 15th. Not sure what to make of this, but I will wait a little before jumping...

Veni, vidi, vici. Had the same problem (Verizon S3), tried the same solution (dropped onto my dresser from a 2 foot height), got the same result (it worked!). I agree that looking at other stuff first (checking prongs, making sure the porthole is clear) makes sense. In my case, I didn't see...
