Is your new launcher a device administrator ? If not it is likely to crash. And I strongly recommend KKLauncher to you. It is flawless and you should try replacing your buttons with screen gestures so that you don't need to press them anymore. Hope this helps.

Re: Google Play Services - Battery Drain I'd suggest turning off the location services. Since Google collects location information of yours, your phone wakes up to connect google servers..Thus battery is drained by google services..Install Wakelock detector and monitor your wakeups to find out...
