You might want to try a factory reset. If I'm not mistaken, you can reset it by going to gear info>reset gear under the settings menu.

Yes, it works great for me. The only thing I find I need to do (and only once in a blue) is to click refresh when I notice it's been a while since anyone moved.

You don't need to download any apps, just use Google maps and click on "location sharing"... From there can pick who you want to share your location with. Also remember to click on share "until I turn off," or it might stop sharing after a few hours. It's what I use with my hubby and daughter...
