The battery will discharge very slowly but not enough to completely lose everything. I would suggest charging it completely and testing it again. Could be a bad battery.

Actually there is an easier way. Go into settings -> More -> Mobile Networks -> Preferred Network Type Here you can change it to what you prefer.
