Was having the same issue. Tried all of the above (yes I did add the closing bracket when i upgraded to 5.0.1 which wasn't there before). I then cleared out all usb drivers relating to Samsung rebooted the phone and as the Samsung logo appeared I connected it to the pc.
For me new drivers...
