I have the same issue and also do not have a Google Play Music subscription, I just use the application to play MP3 files stored on the SD card. I think a Google Play Music subscription fixes the issue but I haven't tried it.

The "Open Camera" app is what I'd recommend to any Moto G 2014 user unhappy with the stock camera's limitations.
