Check your APN settings and make sure mms is enabled. Sometime messaging apps can change that setting without you realizing it.

It's a play on the old blue screen of death from desktop pc's, here it means black screen of death. People have been having problems with the Bionic locking up when it goes into sleep mode, and having to do a battery pull to get the device going again.
