I used the shop samsung app right on the phone. It allowed me to take a picture of my receipt and submit it directly to them for the free Gear VR.

Ordered my silver S8+ from VZW on 4/18. It shipped today via Fedex for delivery tomorrow. Looks like they are trying to get them to us for launch.
