That is not correct. I had an S8 and now have an S9+ on Verizon. I can and have been using Google Assistant fine for almost 2 years on both devices combined.

The app isn't called "Hey Google." It's called Google. And then you have to turn on the "Google Assistant" feature. Go to the settings of the Google app, and right at the top you should see settings for Assistant. That's when you'll get asked to train to it recognize your voice.
