I did this and it worked just fine. The date was fine on mine and the wifi was super spotty despite a factory reset. I have a galaxy tab 4.7 the 2014 model. Bought it like new from a friend then factory reset it and the problem persisted. Using that method to wipe the cache worked REALLY well.
