My nexus7 is visible in windows explorer but am unable to open, but my Hudl2 works OK.WHY?

My nexus7 is visible in windows explorer but will not open up to allow me to transfer files from my PC. Message reads not responding or as been disconnected. I don't have the same problem with my Hudl2

How can I delete photos from auto backup? No Gallery or auto backup app listed in my apps accesed via settings. Cannot find the photos I want to delete in internal storage when connected to laptop via usb. Can find all other photos apart from some in auto backup the ones I want to delete.
