Cheers for the comments all and - eaccentsac - i've done quite a few power cycles and it hasn't fixed things. I'll try the suggested battery monitor app - see if it sheds some light on things.

Exactly the same here with timing, was that around the time of the security patch? The only app i've added recently is a gym one called stronglifts 5x5 which is uber basic.

Update: phone was ordered yesterday. Confirmed order at about half 6 as above and will be delivered today according to dpd. Maybe something to consider if anyone's desperate for the phone quickly and are currently on a google order.
