Got my from Canada and I did mail it back for edge green screen issues on a LG panel. They replaced the screen to BOE and it is perfect now. So if you are in NA, better to go with a Canadian model since they will have warranty support.
Basically just enough to wake a dead phone so your friend can check their message, missed call or a phone number. You can then lend them ur phone for them to use. So in a sense it is like a spare tire.
The notch can be made non visible via a software setting. It is sleek and basically set the notification icons white on black background.
I use MS launcher and it is excellent.
