Total Factory reset solved the problem and all is good now. BTW Factory reset is a lot easier now than a few years back. Everything installed back as it was, just a few passwords that has to be stored back again.

I use Dropbox sync but there is also an app called PhotoSync that is good to transfer images between units.

I think it depends with apps. With Endomondo I get GPS going down for a while and it can be down for even 10 minutes or more. Google Maps never fail for me. I have tried different settings and it could be that it is dependent on reception from the mobile towers as well for some apps.
