On researching it looks like it was a kernel update built on something like 10/21/2014. The OS is still 4.4.2. It just appeared on my wifi only device.

Me too!!! I'm so glad I got the unexpected Android update last night on my tablet and its fixed the Facebook problem. I will start using my tablet more now.

Thanks. I think I'll just stick with running Facebook in the Browser until either Samsung or Facebook actually fix the problem.

I still wait anxiously with each FB update for a fix to be delivered. I'm still disappointed with the FB crashes still happening. I have reverted to using Chrome and FB on my Tab 3. It's amazing that FB works just fine on my Samsung G5, but I miss my 10.1 inch screen.

My 10.1 Tab S3 updated to Android 4.4.2 over the weekend. Since then Facebook has started crashing or dying just like the original poster said. The same thing with my wife's Tab S3 after it updated too.
