Are there work-arounds for any of that? Can you, at the least, temporarily disable GV so you can send MMS, do group messaging, message shortcodes, etc? If your recipient hadn't maxed their messages for the month, would they still get charged for receiving your SMS?

How can you tell if a particular app is one made by Google & part of Android, vs an app that was made by the phone manufacturer (HTC, Samsung, etc) or other 3rd party? I want to figure out if the Message, Mail, Contacts, & Calendar apps on my Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE were made by Google, or HTC.

I did it several times at the phone store. But as you're dragging the blue tab around, your finger itself is on top of the line (or lines) you're dragging your finger over. So it's hard to see what you're doing, because you can't easily see where you are in the text. I guess this depends...
