I don't think there is a "setting" for this ... It's just there. It works for me (but not great). To put the phone to sleep double tapping seems to work well, but to wake sometimes it takes 3-4 taps.

Get rid of all task killers (widgets or apps), get rid of the anti virus, turn auto brightness off and set the brightness to the lowest you can stand (I set mine to the lowest setting and can see it all the time just fine). Use WiFi when possible because data over WiFi uses much less battery...
