I believe the default settings is auto brightness, so it should automatically adjust the brightness based on the ambient lighting. But if you go to the display settings you can change from auto to brightness levels 1 through 5.

Bluetooth range is hard to quantify. Depends on stuff like walls, furniture, especially metal stuff, and on interference from other electronic signals. It's also hard for me to estimate because if the phone is out of Bluetooth range I still get my notifications through WiFi. All that being said...
