I confirmed as well. Google support said the 63P is a Verizon specific build and that the 63N version I am on is the correct build for non Verizon phones.

I feel your pain. I finally found one store that had a universal SIM card. You need to make sure they gave you the BYOP (Bring Your Own Phone) SIM card. They installed the SIM and it took about 5 minutes for everything to configure and it's working great now! If no one has it, you can order...

Well after FINALLY finding a Sprint store in town that had a universal sim card, my Best Buy pixel is fully operational! This is a great work around if you don't want Verizon and can't get one through the Google store. Plus Best Buy has 12 month financing if you have a card with them. Win win!
