That's really strange! The only thing I can think of is that one of you apps is doing this, try looking at what apps are running in the background. (When i had my s5 it would keep waking up on its own I finally figured out it was one of my apps doing it, i had to uninstall that app)

In my experience the delay is only about 1/2 second to 1 second each way. You say something the other person hears it 1/2 second later, then they say something and you hear them 1/2 second later.
