I wasn't trying to justify it but provide info that could possibly help the OP, as inconvenient as it is to have to go through this process with your friends/contacts.

Single user experience here, had 1 out of 3 friends that couldn't text me after I switched from iPhone. I unregistered my phone from Apple's system and turned off iMessage on it but the one friend could still not text me. After he restarted his phone he was able to SMS me as normal.

I've been able to use the trusted Bluetooth option with an unlock pattern instead of a PIN for unlock. If you have the option (and inclination) it might be worth a shot. Maybe my work's Exchange security isn't as rigorous, though.

Interestingly enough, that's about when I started noticing the issue on my Moto X. I'll try uninstalling Sensor also and report back, for what it's worth.
