Just did a lot of searching around for this similar issue....initially I thought my phone jack had just gone bad, but after multiple days of tinkering I finally got it working (yes!!) after gently poking around inside the connector with a Dentek floss pick (Flossing Made Easy | DenTek Oral Care)...
