I use the always on display, but I keep the phone face down, in a closed zipper case, or in my pocket, so the proximity sensor shuts off the display. No burn in showing.

If the phone is Factory Unlocked, it should not be tied to any carrier. Search your model # to see what carriers it is compatible with. Do you have a SIM card? What happens when you install it?
