I finally worked out how to do it on my Galaxy S2 (I think it is ~4.1.2?) In settings > sound > ringtones select 'add' use Astro File Manager > Android > data > com.google.android.music (you might need to change the view to 'list view' using the eye up the top to be able to see the directory...
