Switch to Google Messenger for texting. Hangouts may be good for some things but texting is not one of them.

I'm just as frustrated as you (my 64 GB graphite pending forever) so don't shoot the messenger. I read further back that one CSR admitted that all pre-orders are tied to specific IEMI so until that specific IEMI comes in it doesn't matter if they have 10,000 on the shelf they won't send you one...

I'd buy your argument if Google identified up front that by accepting the $50 Play credit you could receive your phones after those who order it when it was released but since they didn't do that the premise is that it is first come, first served. And, I would bet most people who ordered early...

I'm guessing that what they did was tie an IMEI to a customer at the point of order. Then when orders come in there is some robot that pulls phones by IMEI/bar code, matches them to customer/address and automatically sends them out. In other words no person has to look at an individual order...

That's absolutely unacceptable. I cannot believe Google as an organization cannot do better that this.
