i'm having similar issues as Anne with my samsung galaxy g2 phone. and i have not transferred any whatsapp files from/to another phone at all, so there should be no filename conflicts. there are photos in my phone which display correctly (e.g. 20131201_WA0002.jpg ) in my phone's file manager...
