OK, so feeling a little silly here. Apparently this is just an update to the app. Before now I've always been able to touch the microphone on the home screen widget and set a reminder. This guy: Now, however, the reminder only works when I activate the assistant with the home button or a blue...

OK, so maybe I'm being thick, but after doing that I don't seem to be able to access the assistant or google in any way, including holding down the home button. When I hold down the home button it does the large white circle but then that just goes away and nothing happens. What am I missing?

Yeah, I turned off auto update in the Play Store and uninstalled "Assitant" from the apps list. This removed the bar from my home page. This didn't help. Should I be doing similar with the "Google" app? When I did the "Disable" on that it asked about returning it to factory, but then says "all...

The trouble in regard to updates is that I'm not sure when the problem started. Will give safe mode a look.

Naw, didn't work, tried clearing the cache too. Then reloading from the store. :o/

Since I got it, my S8 has allowed me to push the activation for the the assistant and say "Remind me at 4:00 to..." with something following. All of a sudden (not sure when it started) it seems to be ignoring the "remind me" keywords and does a web search instead. Any have any ideas?

I updated Google Photos to play with my Chromecast, and it automatically starts "backing up" the photos on my phone! Grrr! I'm assuming that back up is to Google's servers, but, yeah, I'm old fashion and want NOTHING backed up to their servers unless I put it there. I've turned off every thing...

For a while now maps had been having a hard time getting the rout. It searches and finds things just fine, but many times when it tries to find the rout I get "Can't connect to Maps. try again in a few minutes." It seems to work 1st time perfectly after a restart, but after that sometimes not...

Wow, tedious is right! :) Nicely done figuring that mess out, I may give it a try. In the mean time I've gotten the finger print unlock to work pretty well with either thumb, which is about as much as I'd want to do while driving. Once the phone is on I've been good to go for the Bluetooth...

Out of the box my Verizon S5 (US) Google Now is on the home screen and I can just say OK Google on the home screen, and a touch-and-hold of the home button brings me to Google Now. Dos the s for which voice work when the phone is locked? That'd be grand! Thanks for replying.

Exactly, that's why I was hoping for a way to have Google activated by the headset prompt when the phone is locked.

When my phone is on Google automatically gets used and everything works fine. It's when the phone is locked and I hit the button on the Bluetooth headset that I get the P.O.S. "voice dialer" thing.and I can't find anything in the settings that indicates what should be used with the headset.
