Found the answers I needed. Used MyBackup app (no root required). Turned out I did not lose any of my data when reverting to ZVC, but it was good to have the peace of mind.

I would like to know too. My phone was updated OTA to ZVD after activation, and I have been using the phone for a few days, so I would like to backup any user data before attempting anything (i.e. reverting). Or do I absolutely need to root the phone before I can back up user data? Thanks
