Open your app drawer (six squares) , hold down the google app for a second, then drag it to the trash can that appears on the top of the screen.

I have a quick couple of options. The problem obviously goes away if you "unisnstall" the google app from your applications (this really only uninstalls all updates of the Google app and you will still be able to use Google via chrome or any other browser). This permanently fixes it at least...
