So I have been using that and everything I have tethered the data has not been applied towards my download total on vzw's website, is that normal? I am not worried as I am on the unlimited plan but just curious as to if vzw can see all this data I am using tethered.

Not much if you follow the directions the chance of breaking it is nil unless you drop it? But seriously it is not easy to brick a phone or fry radios unless your messing with stuff that is not documented or recommended.

What do you mean? I'm pretty sure every app still works for the iPhone 4 except for Siri which can be added through jail breaking though. I have had no problem with older phones and android apps either
