Couple of suggestions. First have you looked in Google Drive? Maybe they are backed up in there somewhere. Also have you opened and setup the Google Photos app? That app should scan your system and alert you to any folders with pictures in and ask you if you want to start backing that folder up.

I have a Verizon Note 4 bought about a month after the phone was released. Never rooted and I've done every update that has been pushed out never had a problem. I have bought a new Anker battery and I have factory reset after each major update. Cannot recall it ever rebooting on its own.

If you unlock the screen using Samsung Find My Mobile site it will remove the password and set your screen to swipe unlock.

Log into the Samsung Find My Mobile website and there is an option to unlock your screen which also removes the password. It reset the device security to screen swipe to unlock.
