With WiFi radio frequency signals many devices get either TOO WEAK signals or they get TOO STRONG signals. It’s unfortunate that the designs don’t correct for that.

You can get a cheap $20 travel router and bypass this limitation. I did just that. But of course now you need to understand how to use your travel router.

Technically yes. As with any system the connection has competition from other devices. The traffic will compete with each other on your network. On my private network with only in use devices I get no buffering.

Maybe. Try your HOME app for Chromecast to see if it can see the device. If it knows it’s there then VLC should see it also.

Watching for a solution. No guesses at this point. Suspect the router-WiFi connection goes to sleep after it buffers a good section of the movie, then disconnects. Pure speculation.

I use about five weather apps. All with notification turned on. Some have associated text messages for weather warnings. Still get only half the notices I should.

In another thread someone mentioned that you can do peer to peer, aka screen sharing, to the chrome-cast,with no WiFi . But that is it. No other Chrome-cast actions will work.

Understand the difference between MIRRORING and CASTING. It’s a good note to know and understand. Will try a MIRROR without an internet connection to see what happens. Thanks much for that information.

I did just that and it failed to allow a mirror of the a iPhone to the chromecast device. Would even be satisfied with a mirror of a kindle fire to the chromecast. But that also did not work.

Even with the router in the middle (you can get a cheap travel router for $20) it still will not work. Your CHROMECAST has to phone home to the internet to allow you to use it. Else it’s boot routine fails and freezes. At least that’s true with all my tests. Unless someone can suggest a better...

There is an app called MOVIES ANYWHERE that plays the vudu files from ultraviolet. Try that.
