I have had several experiences of having the phone turn itself off while in my pocket. I do not employ a password lock screen. Is there a way to configure the phone so it won't turn off like this?

Newbie to android (from iOS). Love the flexibility of android. I have a S4 Active and am enjoying exploring it's abilities. I keep inadvertently turning down the ringer volume by hitting the side volume button. Is there way to set ringer to max and lock it there? TIA for replies, Larry
