It seems more likely to me that one of those robo-calling scams that use a fake caller-id is using your number. Try doing a Google search for your number in the form nnn-nnn-nnnn and see if you get any hits for other people complaining about calls from that number. Larry

On my Verizon Note 4 you get to that setting by opening Phone, then tap the three dots at the upper right, then Settings from the drop down menu. From there you can tap Call, then Call alerts. Hope this helps, Larry

Just to add one more data point, I have a Verizon Note 4, never rooted, which I bought new in August 2015 and I have used it since them with a Samsung SD card. I still use the original battery, have accepted every update, and have never had a crash/reboot problem. Larry
