I can bypass the Android Auto screen on my phone by swiping down from the top of the screen (on a BlackBerry Priv). I run Waze this way while still using Android Auto. Posted via the Android Central App

I have found that I can connect every time if I close all apps except Android Auto. Other apps shouldn't be open at all. If I have another app open, even if it is minimized, I probably won't connect. It works reliably this way. I'm hoping that an update will make it work better. Posted...

So I took delivery of a GTI SE yesterday. I expected Android Auto not to work based on what I read here. I was happily wrong. It connected and works! The first USB cable I tried didn't work but the second one did. I'm using the Android Auto app from December and Priv is on AAD250...
