What icons are you using?

On my phone, in the Tesla settings, there is box to check for LG Email. It works fine for me. Gmail and regular email show unread numbers.

I'm on Nova and I get the text message pop ups.

If you don't see the microphone button to the left of the spacebar (you might see a stylus instead) , hold your finger on that button until other options are shown, then pick the microphone.
