Before a factory reset you might want to try less drastic measures. Try clearing cache. Or it might be something in your settings, might be a new app?

Re: OTA Updates while Rooted To take an ota update you need the stock recovery. Or you could just flash the last factory image, and then just reflash supersu through the recovery.

Yeah I should have said that. If you want it to scroll that way you can get another launcher. Google now launcher does that. I haven't tried another launcher in quite a while so I can't really recommend any other, but there is certainly others that scroll vertically as well.

adb shell wm density "dpi" I think 480 is the stock value.

You can change the screen density through adb.
