My experience with Samsung’s wireless charger is that IT’S JUNK. I can put my phone on before bed with about 40% battery remaining and when I wake up in the AM, the charger will be green, indicating a full charge but my battery will be at 50-60%.

I had the exact same symptoms as you, including laying flat seeming to amplify the problems. I tried safe mode and a factory reset, to no avail. Verizon ordered me a replacement and I've got the new phone setup the same way my problem device was and 24 hours in, it seems to be ok.
