Is there anyway to change the appearance of the standard widget. The reason I ask is because the standard view with the picture of the website is not a very intuitive. I would prefer if I could just have the icons how they display in chrome itself.

You can also look on Google wallet. Go to the page where your card details can be viewed and it should display the balance at the bottom of the page.
