Thanks sko580. that's what it was. I uninstalled Keis and now AFT works. So I guess this is what we use to backup and sync our samsung/android products? We just have to remember to manually copy and paste files between our computer and the mobile devices? I can't believe there is nothing better.

I tried downloading and installing Android File Transfer from Android.com But when I start it and connect my Galaxy Note 10.1 Tablet it says "Could not connect to device. try restarting" And restarting does not work. Not sure what else to try.
