Thanks for the reply but I must be missing something as I cannot set up fingerprints etc in Lock Screen and Security as it always tells me I must turn on a secure lock screen option - PIN, pattern etc.

I just had to reload my Note 8 and previously I didn't have a lock screen, the phone just came on to my home page but the fingerprint and iris scanner worked fine in other apps. Now I've reloaded I can't get the phone to work this way anymore. Any ideas how I can do that please?
