My teenage son solved it! Apparently on this HTC 1 I have to double tap the home button to show all open apps, which allows quick switching. I had been holding the Home buton and ending up in Google Now, etc. Thanks for your quick reply, though.

I cannot work out how to check/copy the Authenticator code on my phone when opening a new app on the same phone. I would be signing in to the app, using Google Account, when it asks me for the code. I have to open the Authenticator to get the code. But when I come back to the app to enter the...
