I don't think there is a correct of placing down your phone. But in android marshmallow you should put it down on the screen to turn off the sensors, this will put your phone into doze and hibernate your apps. Posted via the Android Central App on an LG V10

My LG V10 screen time out was set by default to 30seconds. I set it to keep screen turned on but once I put the screen to sleep and unlocked the phone it got changed back to 30seconds and this happens every time. Posted via the Android Central App on an LG V10
