There we go, got the phone back now. All they did was replace the battery, but the battery only had a 6 month warranty even though the phone had 2 years. So for anyone with this problem, I'd recommend to test a different battery and/or just buy a new one yourself, if it's been over 6 months...

Quick update, I've sent the phone in for repairs. I was told by the retailer that samsung phones have a 2 year warranty by default (at least in my country). Hopefully they get it fixed and provide the reason for the fault. Should get it back in about a week.

Hi GSDer, thanks for replying. I think I'll have to try that next, since nothing else has worked so far. I ran the phone at 100% battery and in "safe mode" with no apps, but the problem persisted. Maybe the factory reset will work anyway, I'll report back so if anyone else runs into this problem...
