I think you will have to use Gmail... if you like it or not. I don't think you have any other options. Id suggest using Gmail with Outlook. But since Google stops the free calendar sync you could use EVO Collaborator for Outlook add-in to get Gmail / Outlook sync working again. Alternatively...

I suggest asking a friend to use their cable and see if it works? I could only use a SONY usb cable for my Xperia..a normal one didn't work (only charge) before as well. Or as said before, get the latest software on your pc for your phone. Regarding the sync process. Id recommend EVO...
